Juvéderm Voluma ™ XC

Can a cosmetic procedure help your skin defy the ravages of aging and gravity — and yet still look totally natural?

The answer is Yes!

Juvéderm Voluma ™ XC is the first filler that the FDA has approved for adding volume to the cheek area.

By increasing volume at mid-face, Voluma restores, contours and gives patients a more youthful profile. What’s more, the results truly last.Studies have shown that close to 75 percent of patients who were treated with Voluma for mid-face volume felt they looked younger than they did at baseline; on average, these patients felt they looked five years younger than their actual age.Even more remarkably, patients felt that Voluma’s benefits persisted.

How is Juvéderm Voluma ™ XC different from other fillers?

Juvéderm Voluma ™ XC injectable gel is the first and only filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area; it also can be used to restore firmness to the chin and jawline. Using this product helps patients achieve a subtle lift. While other products can help fill lines and smooth wrinkles, Juvéderm Voluma XC is the only treatment in the world that was developed specifically to restore facial volume.

Do patients still benefit from other Juvéderm products?

  • Juvederm® XC Ultra and Ultra Plus work differently from Voluma.  These formulations smooth out wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth (the ones that form like parentheses).
  • Juvederm® Ultra gel filler is best for use in persons with mild to moderate facial aging.
  • Juvederm® Ultra Plus is a more robust formulation for correcting deeper folds and wrinkles; it works best for persons with moderate to severe facial aging.
  • XC Ultra and Ultra plus can be used alone or in combination with Voluma, depending on the patient and the desired results.

How many treatments will I need?  How long do results last?

Natural results, using only as much filler as necessary, and preserving the budget for maintenance is an honest assessment of optimal filler use.  In summary, plan on an initial treatment, followed up by a touch-up 2-3 months later.

Will treatment hurt?

During treatment, patients will feel an initial prick, but Juvéderm Voluma contains a small amount of lidocaine, which should diminish discomfort. A topical anesthetic can be applied to the injection area before treatment as well.

Is there any downtime?

There is little to no downtime with a Juvéderm treatment. You can resume normal activity immediately. It’s best to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and sun exposure for 24 hours after treatment. You may experience tenderness, swelling, lumps or bumps, bruising, redness or itching at the site of injection, but all symptoms are mild to moderate and will clear up within one to four weeks.

Will treatment make me look unnatural?

Juvéderm products, administered by an experienced injector, will give you a very natural look. All of them are made from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in your body. Your face will still have complete movement, and the change will be subtle. Friends and coworkers will probably mention that you look great and think you’ve been sleeping better.

What should I do before treatment?

Before treatment, avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin, NSAIDs (Aleve, Motrin, Naproxin, Celebrex) and Fish Oil for at least a week. This will help reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
